What is aromatherpy?

Carina Falck Aromatherapist

Aromatherapy and holistic health.

Aromatherapy falls under the alternative or complementary/complementary/holistic medicine.

Characteristics of complementary and holistic medicine.

A holistic approach means that the therapist and the client regard the body, soul and spirit of the patient as equal. These three must be healthy and in balance to enjoy optimal health.

Aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is a form of healing where the aromatic (scented) components of certain plants are used to restore the balance between body, soul and spirit, so that the body's inherent ability to heal itself is activated.

How aromatherapy works.

Aromatherapy affects the health of your mind, because the aromatic oils touch the part of the brain where emotion, learning and memory take place.

It is common knowledge today that your mind world and your mental health affect your physical health.

When your mind and spirit are healthy, you have the breeding ground for diseases - viz. an anxious, depressed, and overstimulated train of thought, removed.

How do the oils reach this part of the brain?

Essential oils' molecules are very small and light and reach the limbic brain through the olfactory or olfactory system.

When essential oils are applied by means of a 'diffuser' or other methods of inhalation, they bring about emotional changes in the brain within seconds, and this has an influence on hormones such as serotonin, cortisol, adrenaline and much more.

The balance thus achieved has psychic and psychological effects that activate the body's ability to heal itself.

The miracle.

When you eat an orange, its unique composition provides much more than vitamin C.

There is fiber, the smell, the juice, the unique compounds in the orange that make the vitamin C absorbable and much more. Eating an orange therefore does much more for you than swallowing a vitamin pill.

In the same way, the extremely complex composition of an essential oil such as rose oil is responsible for a much greater effect on your body, soul and spirit than taking a chemical to relieve depression. When oils are combined, they create a whole new complex composition that speaks to, touches and balances other parts of your brain.

This exciting world is at your fingertips when you make aromatherapy a part of your daily life.

What can be treated by aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is used alone or adjunctively to treat almost any medical condition. Rheumatism, depression, the grieving process, indigestion, tension, ability to concentrate, and pain are just a few examples.
